Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada, but was raised in the United States. She's been an editor since the year 1995. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency which is a website that features videos and comments analyzing the portrayals of females in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian has been a journalist, media critic and a prestigious feminist for more than a decade. Feminist Frequency, a web-based resource dedicated to education, which examines women's roles in pop culture narratives, is her brainchild. She also serves as the director of operations. Aiming to dispel the myths that are associated with women in pop media, she is also working on issues related the gender-specific harassment of women as well as different classes of individuals on the internet. Sarkeesian also holds a York University master's in social theological, philosophical and political thought. Alongside being an acclaimed public speaker, she's given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO Conference and United Nations Broadband Working Group. At a young age she was intrigued by issues of gender identity and feminist thinking. When she was still in school, in 2009, she created her Feminist Frequency Website. The ebullient young woman was slammed on the internet for her website featuring a series about gender and videogames. She was not deterred by the assault, actually, it just reinforced her drive to become an expert on media and feminism. She is a recipient of several awards for her contributions to the cause of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic, has been awarded numerous awards and created Feminist Frequency which is an educational nonprofit that studies the way women are depicted in popular culture narratives.
